The Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR) was founded by the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern) in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988. In 1993, FAR was reorganized into a private voluntary organization, independent of the Diocese, and recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the I.R.S. FAR’s mission is:

• To provide short-term emergency relief, and
• To implement programs for the long-term economic growth and social development of Armenia.

FAR caters its general relief and development programs to the changing needs in Armenia. Currently, FAR concentrates its efforts on humanitarian aid, social and economic development, and educational and professional advancement. Since its inception, FAR has channeled over $200 million in humanitarian assistance to Armenia. It remains the preeminent Diaspora organization operating in Armenia.

FAR is headquartered in New York City and has branch offices in Yerevan and Gyumri, Armenia as well as in Stepanakert, Karabagh.

On September 25, 2002, Jazz Pianist & Vocalist Rick DellaRatta was invited to lead a band consisting of: 'Israeli, Middle Eastern, European, Asian & American' Jazz musicians in a concert inside the United Nations, for an international audience.

Rick named this band, "Jazz For Peace™"

Jazz for Peace's mission is to help advance people to their highest potential through the understanding of Jazz as well as spreading peace through our "Jazz For Peace™  Concerts" worldwide - joining forces (or performing)  with multi-cultural musicians to spread peace through the artform of Jazz and entering regions that are politically controversial. By the means of live concerts, video taping, on hands/ on-line teaching as well as supplying musical instruments to under-privileged children in under developed areas worldwide, Jazz for Peace will re-enforce what past history has proven - that the art form of Jazz has the ability to create a positive effect that unites people and may eventually start to transform the barriers and issues of different cultures and beliefs.
