United We Quilt is a non profit organization founded in September, 2001, to provide comfort for families who lost loved ones on 9/11/01 in the terrorist attacks. The project is an all volunteer clearinghouse, matching families who request personalized memory quilts in celebration of their loved one with volunteer quilters from all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. To date we have over 500 volunteer quilters and have matched 475 families with quilters. The quilts are not for exhibit but are for the sole use of families for comfort and healing. One hundred per cent of donations to United We Quilt are used for the postage, phone and printing costs related to communicating with quilters and families. On September 25, 2002, Jazz Pianist & Vocalist Rick DellaRatta was invited to lead a band consisting of: 'Israeli, Middle Eastern, European, Asian & American' Jazz musicians in a concert inside the United Nations, for an international audience. Rick named this band, "Jazz For Peace™" Jazz for Peace's mission is to help advance people to their highest potential through the understanding of Jazz as well as spreading peace through our "Jazz For Peace™ Concerts" worldwide - joining forces (or performing) with multi-cultural musicians to spread peace through the artform of Jazz and entering regions that are politically controversial.
